A Barrow Load of Fun
Independent developer, Clarkscript, has launched Plotplan - a garden
software program with diary, plot records and practical help on quantity
measurement - for Windows NT4/2000/XP.
Gardening is an art form where the creation constantly changes and needs
regular attention. Memories fade but with a good system of record keeping
they can be refreshed. The Plotplan Diary stores your past, present and
future jottings, philosophical musings, opinion of the next doors, costs and
anything else you wish to record for posterity, in a password-protected,
encrypted journal that can be printed. The calendar links to your
photographs and video clips via thumbnails, and creates an automatic
slide-show. Using a different name allows you to keep several diaries for
planing the garden jobs or your life story. All the family can have their
own password for a separate version.
Plotplan caters for the more practical side of horticulture with a system of
grids using colors, letters and symbols to give you a visual record of
planting and other land-based tasks. By altering the scale it is possible
not only for you to use the grids to represent actual plots but also
greenhouse benches and even seed trays. Some people have recently been
caught using grids for a crafty game of Tick-Tack-Toe (X's and O's). Budding
artists with time to doodle have managed some pretty creative designs of no
functional value whatsoever. Notebooks are provided for details of planting,
sowing and other tasks you need to plan or recall.
A handy Quantities section enables you to do quick calculations for potting
and potting-on amounts. Volumes for mulch, gravel, etc. can be calculated
and expressed in bucketful's or barrow loads. Guidance is given on how to
calculate your barrow or bucket volume - metric or imperial. Users are
encouraged to request new features or enhancements for the wish-list as
updates are free.
